We just got something here for the first time. Super friendly! And the Schäufele and the carp were excellent. Tastes great, the Schäufele with a perfect crust! And on request there was even Ingreisch with carp. We will certainly order more often ... ?

Was on October 18, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. with my son for lunch in this restaurant. When I looked at the menu in the showcase in front of the restaurant, I immediately noticed the rather high prices (e.g. sauerbraten € 13.50; quarter duck € 17.50 or goose breast € 19.50) and wouldn't it be shortly before 2:00 p.m., they would have made me drive on. But the hunger was great and so we decided to stay. The dining room is not particularly large, clean and well-kept. The two young waitresses were always friendly, but the sanitary facilities are very cramped. Now for the food. Actually, my son and I wanted to eat 1/4 duck each, although I would expect a 1/2 duck for a price of € 17.50 in a Franconian inn. Unfortunately, this was over, which I understand given the time. Ultimately, my son ordered the goose breast with dumpling and red cabbage (for € 19.50) and I ordered the sauerbraten with gingerbread sauce, cranberries and red cabbage (for € 13.50). First of all, I would like to say that for € 19.50 in other inns you not only have a goose breast, but a 1/4 goose on your plate. The meal came in a reasonable time, although the hall upstairs was well attended, according to the volume when we entered the inn. For sauerbraten: the meat was tender and tasty. The sauce tasted slightly burnt and the cranberries were slapped carelessly directly on the meat, so that the juice of the cranberries mixed with the sauce, which is not for everyone. The goose breast: the meat was okay here too, but it looked a bit lost on the large plate. The sauce, on the other hand, was pretty watery and had little poultry flavor. The red cabbage, which both my son and I had, was very light, liquid and shimmered with a lack of taste. The dumplings were perfect and fresh. Overall, with one drink each, we came to a bill of € 39.00 for 2 people. Now for the final evaluation: Those who have too much money and who don't care about average food quality are in good hands here. However, if you value good middle-class Franconian cuisine at a fair price, you should go to another inn. Maybe not everything will be perfect there, but that doesn't hurt so much with lower prices. For me a "unique" pleasure in the truest sense of the word. I'd rather take my money elsewhere.

Dignified country inn with excellent cuisine For years the Alte Schmiede in Roßendorf (yes, Roßendorf still has the letter ß on the place name signs) has been the stop and highlight of our favorite Sunday hike in the Fürther hinterland. There is a very varied 2-hour hike from the Cadolzburg hiking car park, which takes you to Roßendorf after about 1.5 hours. Classical, Franconian cooking is served here. Without frills, but a little more sophisticated than just carp, roast pork and Schäuferle. Although I have nothing against carp, roast pork and Schäuferle, but an ox cheek braised in red wine, a roast wild boar or beef in horseradish sauce are also not to be scoffed at. Always friendly staff, a few tables outside and homemade canned sausage or smoked sausages to take away round off the country inn experience appropriately. Always a recommendation ...

Definitely the last time ... Cheese escalopes tough, roast potatoes dark, onions black, service completely overstrained, which in itself would be okay, but please communicate ... Afterwards the cook, unreasonable, slightly irritable and partly outrageous, came to our full table with children and discussed unreasonably about a dessert which I demanded at the expense of the house .... In the end, I spared myself the discussion about the dessert, which was calculated to me with 3.60 (2 pieces TK apple cakes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). Full length a big disappointment!

Come again and again to eat. Top Franconian cuisine and also something unusual! Nice family business.
